The drug will fight melanoma — one of the most aggressive and metastasizing tumors. This will allow thousands of patients to receive free treatment.
The first Russian to receive the vaccine was a 60-year-old resident of the Kursk region. The man was diagnosed with melanoma in 2021, underwent two surgeries, but metastases returned. "NeoOncovac" is created individually: tumor cells are taken from the patient, and the drug is synthesized based on them, which is then injected into the body.
As a result, a special protein is produced that "trains" the immune system to recognize cancer cells as foreign. The body begins to fight them on its own. The method has fewer contraindications than chemotherapy and is more gentle for patients.
"NeoOncovac" is used for adult patients with skin melanoma. The drug has already shown effectiveness in clinical trials. Inclusion in compulsory medical insurance means complete free access for Russian citizens — this is a huge breakthrough for Russian medicine.
The development of a domestic cancer vaccine is the result of work by leading scientific centers and pharmaceutical companies.
Personalized immunotherapy opens new possibilities in the fight against oncology. In the future, the method is planned to be adapted for other types of cancer.
