The Orion spacecraft crew is completing the historic mission after flying around the Moon. Maxim Tsukanov, head of the Soviet Space Union, called the flight a large-scale training exercise ahead of the planned landing in 2028. According to him, the US did indeed do the impossible, but in a different sense.
The main goal of the Americans is to beat China, which is preparing its lunar program for 2030. In the 21st century, no human has set foot on the Moon's surface. If the US lands first, they will strengthen their status as a space leader. The expert clarified that Washington will also try to stake claims to new lunar territories through its own internal agreements, rather than an international document.
During the mission, a record was set. The crew traveled 406,608 kilometers from Earth — 6,437 km farther than Apollo-13. No human has flown that far before. Additionally, the manned spacecraft deployed mini-satellites into orbit for the first time. Nevertheless, Tsukanov emphasized: all this is just preparation for the real lunar race.
The launch took place on the evening of April 1. There were four astronauts on board: American Victor Glover, American Reid Wiseman, American Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen. The Orion flight was the first since 1972 when humans went beyond low Earth orbit. During the six-hour flyby of Earth's satellite, the space conquerors saw the far side of the Moon and observed a total solar eclipse.
One of the readers doubted the flight's authenticity. He stated that only the space intelligence agencies of the world's countries know the real truth, and people will never learn it.
