In northwest, central, and peninsular India, daytime highs are ranging from 40°C to 44°C. The IMD noted that many areas are seeing temperatures 5°C or higher above average, signaling growing heat stress nationwide. Heatwaves commonly cause health issues like dehydration, cramps, exhaustion, and potentially fatal heatstroke.
To combat these risks, the IMD stresses prompt precautions: drink plenty of fluids, steer clear of midday sun, opt for loose clothing, and protect at-risk groups including kids, seniors, and laborers outdoors. No major cooling is expected in northwest India until April 27.
The forecast predicts ongoing heatwave conditions for the next week in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha.
