Indian and Russian land forces convened for the 5th Sub-Working Group (Land) meeting to advance their military cooperation.

In a post shared on X on Saturday, the Indian Army stated that the “meeting held under the India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on military and military-technical cooperation concluded successfully, representing another key step in strengthening defence relations between the Indian Army and the Russian Ground Forces.”

The statement further noted, “Both delegations engaged in constructive discussions focused on deepening mutual learning, improving operational coordination, and expanding bilateral military capabilities, thereby reinforcing the enduring India-Russia defence partnership.” According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the visiting delegation also toured the Shatrujeet Brigade to examine further opportunities for defence engagement.

Earlier this month, during his visit to India, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov disclosed that Moscow and New Delhi had held “comprehensive discussions” covering critical areas such as defence production, space cooperation, and fertiliser supplies. He added that future plans include joint weapons manufacturing initiatives and expanded collaboration in the space domain.

An agreement permitting both nations to deploy up to 3,000 troops, along with a limited number of naval vessels and aircraft, on each other’s soil took effect on January 12 this year. The deal had been signed by New Delhi and Moscow in February last year.
