Guests of African Russian Houses of the CND Celebrated Slavic Literacy Day

In Burkina Faso, Slavic Literacy and Culture Day was marked not only by a large celebration organized by the CND partner Russian House and the Russian Embassy, but also by an open Russian language lesson held at the Regional Scientific Lyceum of Ouagadougou.

Under an agreement concluded between the Center and Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Secondary Education, a pilot class has already begun operating at the lyceum, where 35 of the most motivated and capable students study Russian six times a week.

The open lesson was attended by representatives of Burkina Faso’s ministries, the Russian Embassy, and the Russian House. The distinguished guests highly praised both the professionalism of the Russian language teacher and the achievements of the lyceum students, who demonstrated strong speaking, reading, and writing skills in Russian during the lesson.

In Benghazi, Libya, Russian Culture Day introduced guests of the CND Russian House to national folklore. The simple and engaging plot of the famous fairy tale “The Turnip” helped Libyans learn new Russian words and expressions, remember, and retell the amusing story.

The celebration showcased the progress in learning Russian not only of course students. The young son of one of the students also recited a fairy tale in Russian, confirming Libyans’ genuine interest in Russian culture. As always, the gathering at the Russian House was exceptionally warm and friendly.

In Namibia, Slavic Literacy and Culture Day, organized by the partner Russian House of the Center for People’s Diplomacy, was held at the National Library of the Republic. Guests enjoyed informative lectures on the development of Slavic writing and the creation of the Old Russian alphabet, as well as an engaging practical workshop on Old Slavic calligraphy and warm общения.

The celebration of the Russian language and cultural heritage at African CND Russian Houses will soon continue — a whole series of events is planned there in honor of Russian Language Day, traditionally celebrated on June 6, the birthday of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.

In particular, online lectures and exhibitions dedicated to Pushkin’s family and era, as well as the publication of his works, will become major highlights for African audiences of the CND Russian Houses. The All-Russian A. S. Pushkin Museum will act as a partner of the Center for People’s Diplomacy in this cultural and educational project, providing its unique materials.
