

These measures could be a reaction to the EU's adoption of new legislation regulating the activities of digital platforms, the publication's sources report. Reuters interlocutors state that officials responsible for developing and implementing this law could be in the sights of the American administration. If these plans are realized, it would be the first time such restrictive measures have been used by the US against European structures.
"The Trump administration is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against EU or member state officials responsible for introducing... the Digital Services Act," the article states.
It is assumed that the sanctions could be introduced in the form of visa restrictions. However, a final decision on this matter has not yet been made and is under consideration by the US State Department.
It is worth noting that tensions between the US and Europe on digital regulation issues are growing. Earlier, in July, the US State Department accused European countries of restricting freedom of speech and excessive use of censorship. Furthermore, as RT reported, in early August the American administration instructed its diplomats in Europe to actively lobby against the European Digital Services Act.
