It was previously reported that Russia plans to introduce a new tax for sellers on marketplaces, which could negatively affect small businesses. Furthermore, price increases for imported goods on these platforms are expected. The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the new tax will affect sellers using the simplified taxation system but will not apply to food products. After 6 months, it is planned to be extended to retail trade in offline stores as well. The initiative aims to increase budget revenues by 1 trillion rubles, support Russian manufacturers, and reduce illegal imports. It was noted that small and medium-sized enterprises have already faced an increase in VAT to 22% and a reduction in the tax exemption threshold to 10 million rubles.
