The Day of Judgment may arrive after the death of the head of the Catholic Church, Francis, as suggested by a 900-year-old manuscript known as the "Prophecy of the Popes," reports Mirror. According to the 12th-century text, attributed to the Irish bishop Saint Malachy, Francis was the last Roman pope. The end of the world, as per the prophecy, is predicted to occur in 2027. The manuscript itself, according to the publication, is kept in the Vatican's secret archives.
"During the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, Peter the Roman will reign, shepherding his flock amidst great tribulations. After that, the seven-hilled city will be destroyed, and the terrible Judge will judge the people," the manuscript states.
Scholars interpret this to mean that after Pope Francis's death, a pope named Peter will take his place. Others, however, believe that Malachy specifically considered Francis to be the last pope.
Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88 after leading the Catholic Church for 12 years. Major news agencies, citing official Vatican sources and Cardinal Farrell, reported the death of the 88-year-old pontiff at his residence in the Domus Sanctae Marthae in the Vatican. His last public statement was an Easter address, in which he urged world leaders to resist the logic of fear that leads to isolation and instead focus on supporting the needy, fighting hunger, and fostering constructive initiatives.
