According to the researcher, the scientific community stands on the threshold of breakthrough discoveries in the medical field, as well as in cellular and molecular biology. He expressed confidence that these advancements will make it possible to significantly increase human life expectancy.
Sergeev emphasized that one of the priority areas of work for Russian scientists is the development of the concept of so-called mental longevity.
“Longevity can be different: there is physical and mental. It would be ideal if a person remained healthy both physically and mentally for a long time,” explained the scientist, as cited by Gazeta.ru.
Earlier reports mentioned China’s plans to surpass its current life expectancy figures. At present, the average life expectancy in China is 79 years. The country’s government intends to move toward new achievements in this area by actively promoting a healthy lifestyle among its population.
