India and the United States signed the Pax Silica declaration today at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. The agreement aims to deepen collaboration on critical minerals, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence, fostering a secure global silicon and technology ecosystem.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw oversaw the signing and emphasized India's ambition to lead in semiconductors and electronics. He highlighted that Indian engineers are developing cutting-edge two-nanometer chips, with the industry needing over a million skilled workers—all to be sourced domestically. Vaishnaw also noted that students from 315 universities and colleges are actively designing chips.
US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, speaking at the ceremony, described the partnership's potential as boundless—from trade deals and Pax Silica to defense cooperation. He explained that the coalition will shape the 21st-century economic and technological landscape by securing the entire silicon supply chain, from minerals and chip production to AI deployment. Garcetti stressed that "Pax Silica" replaces coercive dependencies with reliable partnerships that champion free markets, advancing trusted AI worldwide while promoting peace through strength.
