Geospatial Tech Boosts India's Infrastructure, Security, and Disaster Response: Minister Jitendra Singh

Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh stated today that geospatial technologies are becoming a major force in driving India's infrastructure growth, national security, and disaster management. Speaking at the opening of GeodCon-26 in New Delhi, he highlighted the geospatial sector's dramatic evolution over the last decade.

Dr. Singh pointed to reforms at institutions like the Survey of India and the launch of the National Geospatial Policy 2022, which have unlocked fresh avenues for innovation and research.

He emphasized how geodesy and geospatial tools now underpin critical fields like satellite navigation, climate tracking, emergency response, and economic strategy. These technologies, he added, are essential for scientific advancement, governance, and India's role in global tech initiatives.

The minister stressed the need for partnerships between universities, research bodies, industry, and startups to bolster the nation's geospatial framework. Projects like the National Centre for Geodesy and regional hubs, he noted, will foster robust knowledge networks and cutting-edge studies.

Dr. Singh voiced optimism that events like GeodCon-26 will unite diverse stakeholders, sparking idea exchange, teamwork, and breakthroughs. The three-day National Conference on Geodesy focuses on advancing the field for holistic Earth observation, accurate positioning, and sustainable progress.
