Meeting with Zelenskyy was interrupted: Trump urgently called Putin

According to Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, the conversation lasted about 40 minutes and was conducted in a frank and constructive manner.

“The conversation was frank and very constructive in nature. [It] lasted about 40 minutes,” he said at a briefing for journalists (quote via URA.RU).

It is noted that Trump interrupted the summit with Zelenskyy and the Europeans to call Vladimir Putin.

During the conversation, Putin thanked Trump for organizing the recent summit in Alaska and expressed appreciation for the efforts aimed at resolving the situation in Ukraine. The parties discussed the importance of continuing direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the possibility of raising the level of representatives participating in these talks.

“Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump expressed support for the continuation of direct negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine. In this regard, in particular, the idea was discussed that the possibility of raising the level of representatives of the Ukrainian and Russian sides, that is, those representatives who participate in the mentioned direct negotiations, should be explored,” Ushakov said.

Trump, in turn, informed about the completed negotiations at the White House with Zelenskyy and leaders of European countries, Ushakov stated.

According to a White House source, Trump plans to organize a personal meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy by the end of August, believing that this could be a key step towards a full-scale settlement of the conflict. The American side has already begun coordinating this issue with representatives of both countries.

Journalist and naval intelligence veteran Jack Posobiec noted that Trump interrupted the meeting with Zelenskyy and European leaders to call Putin, which sparked speculation about the possible format of the conversation and its goals.

“He interrupted the meeting to call Vladimir Putin right in the middle of it—right at the moment when all the heads of state were at the table. And now we are waiting to find out if he stepped aside for the conversation or called Putin right there. Initially, we were told that he would call Putin after the meeting, but he made the call right in the middle of it. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if he put it on speakerphone so that everyone at the table in the East Room could hear it,” the telegram channel PUL N3 quotes the journalist as saying.
