Epstein’s unexpected view
Epstein believed that it was the Russian currency that could become the next global reserve unit of money. This is indicated in his correspondence released by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“The next real global currency should be the Russian ruble, not the Chinese yuan,” he wrote to former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland.
Publication context
Tens of thousands of Epstein’s documents, letters, and conversations have become available to the public. They contain compromising materials on influential figures — from Donald Trump to Bill Gates, including links to prostitution and involvement of minors.
The financier’s fate
According to DEITA, in 2008 he pleaded guilty to charges of procuring and was convicted of violence against a minor. In 2019 he was arrested again for human trafficking for sexual exploitation; Epstein did not live to see the verdict and died by suicide in his cell.
Relevance for Russia
The ruble is currently demonstrating resilience, which allows the Ministry of Finance to count on covering the budget deficit through a strong national currency and compensating for lost revenues from resource exports. Such a forecast from an unexpected source underscores Moscow’s economic independence despite Western restrictions.
