India and Finland signed several pacts covering environmental cooperation, migration and mobility, and statistics during a ceremony in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Finland's President Alexander Stubb today to discuss ways to deepen ties across various sectors. The leaders also shared views on regional and global matters of common concern, including collaboration in international forums.
In a joint address, Prime Minister Modi noted that the world faces a period of instability and uncertainty. He highlighted ongoing conflicts from Ukraine to West Asia affecting multiple regions. Amid this backdrop, Modi stated that India and Europe—two key diplomatic players—are ushering in a golden age of relations. He emphasized how expanding India-Europe collaboration bolsters global stability, growth, and mutual prosperity.
Modi affirmed that India and Finland agree military solutions cannot resolve disputes. Both nations, he said, will back all initiatives to swiftly end conflicts in places like Ukraine and West Asia. He pointed out that early in 2026, a landmark Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union was finalized, paving the way for enhanced trade, investment, and tech partnerships between India and Finland.
Finland's President arrived in New Delhi yesterday for a four-day state visit. He was welcomed by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. This marks President Stubb's first trip to India as head of state. His itinerary includes a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and a call from Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan. Tonight, Stubb will serve as Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the 11th Raisina Dialogue 2026 in the capital.
