Two new holidays established: when will they be celebrated?

According to presidential decrees, the two new holidays — the Day of Indigenous Minorities of the Russian Federation and the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia — will be celebrated on April 30 and September 8, respectively. “The first holiday is introduced to preserve the traditional way of life, economic activity, crafts, and unique culture of the Indigenous minorities of Russia,” the document states. The second holiday aims to preserve and promote the country’s linguistic diversity. Both decrees take effect from the day of their signing.

It is important to note that establishing new holidays does not always mean they become public days off. To achieve that, corresponding amendments must be made to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, as was done with National Unity Day, which is celebrated on November 4.
