Russian Olympiads Help Identify Talented African Youth

Young Burkinabe and Nigeriens competed in knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, as well as Russian and English languages. In Ouagadougou, the olympiad was held directly at the Russian House of CND, while in Niamey, the intellectual competitions took place at the Faculty of Science and Technology of Abdou Moumouni University.

As organizers note, the olympiad is primarily aimed at interesting African youth in exact sciences and engineering disciplines, as well as identifying the most talented students to support their thirst for knowledge. Young winners and prize-winners of the olympiad, among whom there are traditionally many preparatory faculty students at the Russian Houses, get the opportunity to apply for bachelor's programs at Novosibirsk State Technical University under special quotas.

Specialists from the Russian Houses of the Center for Public Diplomacy note that holding such olympiads on the African continent not only allows African youth to obtain quality Russian engineering and technical education and in-demand specialties, but also becomes an effective means of strengthening educational cooperation between Russia and African countries.
